Barbara J. Brown, MSW, LCSWA

Founder & Director

“I believe connection is key when choosing a therapist! I have been described as genuine, down to earth, and easy to talk with by both youth and adults. Talking about difficult emotions and asking for help can be hard. Sometimes it may be easier and more meaningful to express yourself in more creative ways in addition to traditional talk therapy.

My versatile therapeutic approach uses cognitive-behavioral, client-centered, solution-focused, and motivational interviewing techniques to draw out your strengths and passions. I integrate creative approaches to therapy (such as theater/movement, visual arts, and music) while focusing on both empowerment and positive changes.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate and soon to be certified as a Registered Drama Therapist (RDT) offering a creative perspective on your situation. Both my BA and MSW are from Winthrop University with an additional graduate certificate in Management.”

What is Drama Therapy?

Drama therapy is the intentional use of drama and/or theater processes to achieve therapeutic goals. Drama Therapy is an active, experiential approach to facilitating change. Through storytelling, projective play, purposeful improvisation, and performance, participants are invited to rehearse desired behaviors, practice being in a relationship, expand and find flexibility between life roles, and perform the change they wish to be and see in the world.

“Hi There!
If you are reading this you are likely navigating significant challenges and possible struggles in your life. This can sometimes feel uncomfortable or even scary. It is a courageous step you are taking in reaching out.

My name is Geraldine, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Work Associate (LCSWA), and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, with a Master’s Degree in Social Work. I have experience working with a diverse range of clients in schools, private practice and integrated behavioral health care settings.

In working with my clients, I take a warm, interactive, empathic, non-judgmental and supportive approach. I believe in meeting clients where they are. I apply trauma-informed care in my practice, as well as mindfulness-based techniques, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing. Additionally, I invite clients to incorporate the use of various forms of creative expression in the therapy process.

I am a firm believer that we all have solutions to life’s problems, and my role is to collaborate with you as you figure out what remedies best fit the changes you are ready to make. I look forward to fostering empowerment and positivity in our work together as you develop and achieve your goals.

I applaud you for taking this first step towards healing, and really look forward to working with you!”
