Barbara J. Brown, MSW, LCSW, RDT
“I believe connection is key when choosing a therapist! I have been described as genuine, down to earth, and easy to talk with by both youth and adults. Talking about difficult emotions and asking for help can be hard. Sometimes it may be easier and more meaningful to express yourself in more creative ways in addition to traditional talk therapy.
My versatile therapeutic approach uses cognitive-behavioral, client-centered, solution-focused, and motivational interviewing techniques to draw out your strengths and passions. I integrate creative approaches to therapy (such as theater/movement, visual arts, and music) while focusing on both empowerment and positive changes.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Registered Drama Therapist (RDT) offering a creative perspective on your situation. Both my BA and MSW are from Winthrop University with an additional graduate certificate in Management.”

What is Drama Therapy?
Drama therapy is the intentional use of drama and/or theater processes to achieve therapeutic goals. Drama Therapy is an active, experiential approach to facilitating change. Through storytelling, projective play, purposeful improvisation, and performance, participants are invited to rehearse desired behaviors, practice being in a relationship, expand and find flexibility between life roles, and perform the change they wish to be and see in the world.

My name is Geraldine, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Work Associate (LCSWA), and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, with a Master’s Degree in Social Work. “If there is one thing I want to tell everyone about therapy, it’s that you can come just as you are. There is no need to meet a threshold of suffering or insight before you can take care of yourself with therapy. It’s brave to reach out for support when feeling overwhelmed and unsure. If you’ve decided now is the time, then your timing is perfect!
My approach to therapy is collaborative, affirming, and individualized to help each client reach their goals. Clients have described me as kind, easy to talk to, and direct. My work is informed with evidence based practices of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing to address thinking and behaviors that are interfering with living the life you want.
I work with people aged 16 and up who are experiencing grief, anxiety, depression, instability in relationships, emotional overwhelm, and excessive stress at work. I am a neurodivergent-affirming and trauma-informed therapist.”
