ECOTHERAPY IN MOUNT HOLLY

Two hammocks nestled in the forest at our outdoor holistic retreat. Ecotherapy is one of our specialized therapies at Creative Perspectives in Mount Holly.

Ecotherapy is a practice that uses nature and outdoor activities to improve mental and physical well-being, this interaction with nature can enhance healing and growth. It includes a wide range of activities such as gardening, walking in parks, mindfulness in nature, and even animal-assisted therapy. By engaging with the natural world, ecotherapy aims to reduce stress and anxiety, improve mood, and promote a sense of calm.

We are grateful to have a lovely outdoor private space for therapy services in addition to our traditional and comfortable offices. Our unique property offers spaces where you can choose to have your therapy session outdoors. Imagine being able to breathe fresh air, swing in a hammock, feel the wind on your skin, take a mindful walk, or just listen to the wind rustle through the leaves during your session. This can enhance your typical talk therapy session leaving you calmer and more relaxed than talk therapy alone.

Ecotherapy has been found to:

Reduce stress and anxiety: Spending time in nature has been shown to lower stress levels and reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress.

Improve mood and mental clarity: Activities in nature can increase positive feelings, enhance focus, and restore cognitive function, which can help with issues like ADHD.

Enhance physical health: Ecotherapy can encourage physical activity like hiking or gardening, which benefits heart health, blood pressure, and immune function.

Strengthen social connections: Group activities like community gardening or wilderness therapy provide opportunities for social bonding and a sense of community.

Promote mindfulness: It encourages an awareness of oneself in relation to the environment, helping people feel more present and connected to the world around them.

For many clients, being outside helps conversations feel more natural and less confined. Movement, fresh air, and a change in environment can create space for new thoughts, perspectives, and emotional shifts that may not come as easily indoors. Ecotherapy offers a gentle, supportive way to engage in the therapeutic process while feeling more grounded and at ease.

There’s no right or wrong way to experience ecotherapy. Some clients prefer quiet reflection while walking, while others simply enjoy sitting outside and talking in a more open setting. Your therapist will work with you to incorporate outdoor elements in a way that feels comfortable, intentional, and aligned with your goals.
